A fast-talking hood risks his life by going undercover in one of the country's roughest prisons to expose a suspected serial killer’s secrets. Lester Holt reports The Inside Man on Friday, September 14th, at 10pm/9c.
i don't care if the dudes a snitch or rat , if the guy is killing young girls and is a serial killer , hes a hero in my book for bringing this guy to the legal system to answer for his crimes.
This story caught my attention when they mentioned Kankakee. My family lived there for 14 long months -- a scary place. And the park where this guy was selling?? Right across from my old house!! Sure explains why I never felt safe there ...
WoW here I am in Spokane WA and I rarely watch the show, but just like Gloriame, Kankakee caught my attention, but then it got even stranger for me. My fathers family and my biological family are all from the Georgetown and Indianola area. I lived in Danville just North of there when this all happened. I commend the guy for helping out.....anxious to see the end of the show Sad that it happened to anyone anywhere though....
It took a lot of courage to go into a maximum security prison and risk his life for a greater good. This guy is a hero by all accounts. Glad things are going well for you Jimmy, you deserve it!
It took a lot of courage to go into a maximum security prison and risk his life all for the greater good. This guy is a hero in all ways and should be commended for his bravery and all that he did to help stop the killer. Thank you Jimmy, you truely are a hero. I hope everything goes great in your life!
I applaud the man that put his safety on the line to get a confession from the serial killer and to bring closer to the families of the victims. For th the FBI agent and other law officials who were to help the "inside man" get the info, I find it rather 'convenient' that they were 'not available' or 'on vacation'.
Think about this.... The informant Jimmy Keen is a smart guy. To him, nothing is more important than getting proof to convict Hall. Here are two scenarios and you be the judge what really have happened.
1) exactly like Keen said; he did all the hard work patiently and just before his presumed rescue he blows it by pretty much exposing himself to Hall, which then leads to Hall disposing the map before the prosecutor can find it.
2) OR.... Jimmy Keen is a smart cunning guy. He realizes he is never gonna get the proof, so he fabricates the story about a map. The prosecutor gives him a lie detector test in desperate attempt to nail Hall without sufficient proof. It is difficult to rig a lie test to fail someone but not that difficult to pass someone. Jimmy Keen passes the lie detector test. In the end, the prosecutors failed to nail Hall but they save their faces by concocting this story about a ever so elusive "map." Come on, do you think a cunning guy like Jimmy Keen would all of the sudden basically expose himself as a snitch inside a prison? There was no map.
Bob obviously you did not follow the show. First off you spelled Jimmy Keene's name wrong, 2nd it was clearly stated in the show that years later they discovered the Falcons connected to the map and that his twin brother had recieved them from his evil twin larry who made them in the prison workshop, just like Jimmy Keene had said years earlier, how do you explain that Bob? Pay attention Bob and dont be a hater, Jimmy did a great brave heroic deed.. You would never have had the courage to go into a max prison and risk your life to help solve the case of the nutcase serial killer and you know it.
Hey, Kristen, the spelling police, it's funny you tell me not to be a hater yet you make a jab at me for my misspelling and that I don't have the courage to do what the guy did. What courage?! Anyone with ten year sentence would have done the same thing, well, anyone with a common sense which you obviously don't have. You are saying just the falcon figure proves there really was a map? You must be one of those people who believe OJ is innocent because the glove didn't fit. Our legal system is how it is because of people like you.
Yes Bob, stop acting like a hater, and give some credit where credit is due. Obviously you have not followed the case that closely. CNN did a wonderful very detailed piece on Jimmy's story, much better than Datelines. Larry Halls twin brother Gary admitted that Larry had sent the maps and Falcons to Gary and his dad, and 2 eye witness neighbors saw the dad and Gary burning the maps and other evidence when they knew the police were on the way to search the house. Not only did Jimmy get solid concrete proof that Larry was the one who killed Trisha and many others too, there were other girls found as well because of the undercover mission. Now in the face of the evidence obtained from the undercover operation Larry himself and his brother Gary both admitted that Larry killed many other young girls. It was all in the CNN and Discovery channel stories that aired. The Dateline piece was actually not very detailed and not very good. The undercover operation also opened a cold case file on Larry, who now has admitted to killing 42 young girls. The cold case police eventually will charge Larry with capitol murder, Then Larry will get the death penalty or he will have to reveal the where abouts of his other victims to avoid the death penalty. Also keep in mind that Jimmy was arrested for a hearsay drug case no drugs found. No one should have to sit in prison for decades or life for drugs, let alone a hearsay drug case. It was the 1st time in US history anyone had undertaken such a dangerous mission. Jimmy could have stayed in a low security prison and appealed the hearsay amounts, he was entitled to 3 appeals and based on the sloppy hearsay case they imprisoned him for, he would have won a huge sentence reduction by way of appeals. I highly doubt you or anyone would have the courage to have taken the dangerous way out. You would have just stayed in the low security prison and tried on your appeals. Its actually people like you that cause the legal system to be messed up because you just want to lock everyone up for life even if its on trumped up hearsay cases.
I seen the story on Dateline "The Inside Man", I was riveted, what courage that must have took and the will to be redeemed. Here you have a guy in prison for 10 yrs on a hearsay drug conspiracy charge and risks his life helping solve the case of a serial killer? How mis-matched are those 2 crimes? The 2 types of crimes are not even close and the guy in the show risked his life for Redemption! And yet our current President of the United States Obama was a drug user and dealer and he can still be president? That's really messed up. The drug charges in our society are draconian and very wrong. No person ever convicted of a drug charge should ever have to sit in prison for a life sentence or practically a life sentence or have to go into a maximum security prison and risk being killed daily to help stop a serial killer. The guy in the show did a great brave deed and he should be fully redeemed. After all some people become the President of the United States for doing the exact things the guy in the story did! But you cant be the President if you are a serial killer like the one Mr. Keene helped put an end too. My prayers and best wishes go out to Mr. Keene, good luck in all you life endeavours.
Not to degrade the courageousness and over-shadow the amazing thing that Jimmy Keene did to risk his life to help bring down a serial killer; but all I could think about while Lester was narrating the show was that episode of Seinfeld where Elaine dated the guy that referred to himself only in the third person. Jimmy did this, Jimmy did that....
Jimmy was courageous. What a heroic story! I'm sure his book will be a great read as well. I'm going to get a copy of "In With the Devil". Thanks Jimmy!
What a brave heroic thing Jimmy did! I have a teenage daughter and I am comforted knowing that killer will never be able to kill again. I am so proud of Jimmy's courage. Thanks Jimmy!
What an amazing and exciting story! To go undercover and get information from a serial killer is unheard of! Jimmy undertook a very risky and difficult task!
I just watched all of the videos on line! Jimmy's story is truly a fascinating story! He exhibited such bravery in an extreme and extraordinary situation. I don't know what I would have done but Jimmy is an example for all. I am glad that he helped the FBI and the Rietler family. More importantly, he helped stop that killer from killing again! Thanks Jimmy!
I just finished watching the videos on line! What a fascinating story! Jimmy exhibited such daring determination in extreme circumstances. He helped the FBI and the Rietlers and many others too with details about this Larry Hall. Great story Dateline! THANKS JIMMY for your courageous decision. You are a hero in my book, too!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Jimmy talk about his experience! I watched the videos on line as well. His story is intriguing. I cannot imagine going undercover to obtain information from a SERIAL KILLER.
Jimmy was very brave! He helped out in so many ways!
Thanks Dateline for sharing his story!

I think that I would've just took the ten years.
I guess if the girl Trisha was your cousin like she was my husbands cousin you may have a different take on this. Thanks Jimmy :)
