Thank you for your work regarding Dateline’s hidden cameras expose the secrets of carnival games, it has opened my eyes. No longer will I feel guilty no to play to save money and more important no more will I feel incompetent in front of my wife and kids to play and no being a winner. Thank you……
That was a great investigation on the AC repair guys. But the producers on this investigation should pay more attention on the location. I would had charged 800 dollars myself if I went to a house like that lady's, rich folk homes is not the great location come on. I promise you will see the price difference if it was a middle class home.
On the HVAC story, there are a lot of people that are inept installers and techs. Not every state has a contractor who is NATE certified. Example Utah. I went on line to the Dateline website and entered our zip code and no company showed up. My husband has worked in HVAC for 19 yrs. He has seen a lot of guys who are not honest so this topic was no surprise to us. He has always been up front with his customers. They call and specially ask for him. Even the Chief of Police in our area requests him. There are companies that are not NATE certified but are very reliable and honest. Always get a 2nd opinion. I know I never have any air conditioner problems.
Dateline, thank you for exposing false, over estimating, and unnecessary repair claims by many HVAC Service Vendors. It does not matter if your home is large or small, a falsehood is a falsehood. The bottom line is the customer should be charged for the correct service that is needed to make the Air Conditioner work right then and there. Six out of six service vendors tried to over charge for repairs! Dateline investigators thank you for exposing these crimes. What happend to excellent customer service and treating people like you would want to be treated?
Dateline NBC,
Thank you for exposing these falsehood HVAC service vendors and creating awareness. It doesn't matter if you live in a mansion or in a shack. You called for a service repair and you did not receive excellent customer service. The bottom line is no one deserves to be over charged!
As an honest State Licensed HVAC Contractor for more than 30 years, it is disconcerting to see your show. It's a real shame that scam artists are out there. Six out of six dishonest! I didn't catch the name of the city where this investigation took place.
As a family owned and operated business since 1957 we have been blessed with long term qualified technicians. I think one key factor is that we don't pay our technicians on a commission basis. There is no incentive for a salaried employee to increase the customer's expense. By the way, I noticed that your show didn't mention the fact that the cost of R22 Freon ( Refrigerant typically used by residential equipment ) has increased by 300% is just a couple of years! Believe me when I tell you that the cost of an Honest repair can be Very expensive depending on what may be wrong. Of course, If it's just a minor repair the expense should also be minimal - FYI the cost of a minor repair should range between $90.00 up to $200.00 for parts and labor. If anyone would like a second opinion on a repair cost, I can be reached at Contact@ReeveAc.com. We service the Miami / Ft. Lauderdale, Florida area.
