I recall the basic particulars of this when it happened. Michael Roberts -- or someone claiming to be him (maybe it was this Tracey witch) -- was soliciting donations for a defense fund via various firearms and outdoor-themed internet message boards with a plea for assistance and a recitation of the story as the Roberts family wanted it interpreted. (Specifically, I recall this being posted on the now-defunct GunandKnife.com boards.) I recall chastising this Michael Roberts character as a con man or at the very least a bonehead for blabbing about a possible criminal case without the advice of an attorney. Looks like that was very close to the truth.
