Feb. 12: Whitney Houston remembered, 'Conviction'

In a “Dateline” special airing on Sunday, February 12 at 7p/6c, the newsmagazine will look at the life of legendary singer, actress and producer who won six Grammy awards, two Emmy awards, and 30 Billboard Music Awards across her extensive career. Anchored by Lester Holt, the hour will report on Houston’s life and career and the reaction from those who knew her.

And at 8p/7c, Luke Russert reports on Jon-Adrian Velazquez, convicted of murdering a retired NYPD officer back in 1997. An investigation the “Dateline” team has been working on for 10 years, Russert interviews Velazquez, his mother, former girlfriend, sons, eyewitnesses and attorneys. They also recount the timeline - asking the question – is Velazquez, who is serving 25 years to life in Sing Sing Correctional Facility, actually innocent?

Rude, disrespectful reporting.... Shame on NBC News. Who is that scumbag reporter trying to make tabloid news out of photos and hearsay... What happend to letting family and friends mourn and letting the LA DA do his job before jumping to conclusions and reporting it...

I could only stand to watch 7 minutes of this feature due to the horrible production of this "celebrity" topic on Houston.

The main interviewer, who himself looked and acted like he was on drugs, was one of the worst people to have been selected for this show.

His obsession with every interviewee about Houston's last "performance" on Thursday night and her condition, and whether or not she was sweating and drugged up, was embarrassing, and NBC should be VERY embarrassed for this.

I know NBC only had 24 hours to pull this together, but the production staff should have taken their time and done it right.

If you were trying to beat out CBS since they were going to broadcast the Grammys an hour later, and try to "scoop" them by airing this mess, you failed miserably.

No wonder I never watch Dateline.

I agree 100% with this disgrace of a newscast. I also turned it off due to the "reporter" digging for something juicy on Whitney. News flash, Dateline, we are aware of her history with drugs! Dateline, NBC, and their reporters are distasteful, disrespectful, and need lessons not only on how to appreciate the great talent possessed by her but how to honor someone properly. Unfortunately, there will be those more interested in the gory details of her last hours than her contribution to the music industry. They are the ones who will watch this drivel.

This so-called tribute was the most tasteless, classless piece I have ever seen. You showed no respect or empathy for the possibility that her child, family members or friends would watch this. I thought a tribute was supposed to recognize the talents and contributions a person has made. There was so much more to Ms. Houston than the parts of her life you chose to show. I couldn't even finish watching it. I am ashamed and embarrassed for you. Are you journalist or trashy tabloid columnist.

What you chose to show as a tribute to Whitney Houston was one of the most tasteless, classless pieces I have ever seen. You showed no respect or empathy to the possibility that her child, family members or friends might watch this. I will never understand why people in the media prefer to focus on the negatives in a persons life when there was so much positive that could have been shown. Are there no more reputable journalist out there or is everyone jockeying to be the sensationalist. This was nothing more than tabloid fodder and I am ashamed and embarrassed that NBC would choose this route. This is becoming a society of people who build up to tear down and it's disgraceful.

Whitney might have died from drowning due to the Xanax or valium found next to her bathtub. But that is no reason to outlaw those two drugs that have helped 500 million people deal with anxiety. It would be a nightmare if swat teams broke down the doors of of every poor soul suspected of using an anti-anxiety drug without a doctors permission.

I'm writing in regards to "Conviction" and Jon-Adrian Velasquez. I believe he is truly innocent. It makes me so sad that they have convicted an innocent man. My heart breaks for him and his family. I pray for his upcoming release. I hope his children believe his innocence and know that the public supports their father and his true innocence. I'm so grateful for the work that Dateline has done and Mr. Sheen in attempts to free this innocent man.
