Too bad the main stream media(Dateline) won't ask the hard questions....
Why was Norad asked to Step down?
Dick Cheney is nothing but a bald faced, psychopathic Lier and our Country is Worse off due to his hubris....
Being Canadian, Cheney was never on my radar, but after watching this interview I was sickened by Jamie Gangle as a reporter. Things she asked like "were things his decison?". Cheney answered no, "my suggestions, but Bush's decision", yet she kept on about it. I don't believe (from what Gangle presented) that Cheney said anything wrong in his book - she chose to read it not like he wrote it. Connie Rice "teared up" in his office, Gangle took that to mean she was crying. Well, I have teared up many times, but I didn't cry. To me it seemed like she was out to get him. I thought Mr. Cheney did very well for himself.
My husband and I agree with the four previous posts.
We thought Jamie Gangle could do a great SNL interview skit.
That was the most painful interview I have ever sat through. The interviewer's attempt to make news out of accounts of moments was ridiculous and petty. In addition her own feigned self adoration over such "breaking news", please. I turned it off twice thinking it would be an interesting interview to find that in both instances it was horrible prime time television. But then what do I expect really.
I agree with the previous comments. This was a disgusting interview. The interviewer tried really hard to create controversy and conflict when there was none. It sounded like both President Bush's book and Vice President Cheney's book told the exact same story from different views and there was no disagreement.
Lets try to get some real journalism here. Have you had Mr. Obama on and asked him any really hard questions? No! Can he explain why he is anti-American? How about his birth certificate. I was not a crazy birther, but the more Obama reveals about his past, the more questions arise. Now I don't trust him at all. Why is he anti-Christian and pro-Muslim? When he was a Senator, he was anti-debt limit increase but now is pro debt-limit increase? Why has he got tax cheats and liars as cabinet members? The questions go on and on. But the news media, especially the mainstream media supported this man and assisted him in his climb to treachery.
How can you allow an interviewer like that? Her only objective was to make President Bush look weak, but Mr. Cheney did not let her. He repeteadly said he was an advisor and that the decisions, were the President's. What is wrong with having an advisor to help you make a decision? Absolutely nothing, but the woman interviewer just wanted to make the President and his Administration look bad. Shame.
How can you people believe a word out of this guy's mouth. How many of our young men and women were killed in Iraq due to a LIE? Perhaps you have forgotten the response from this man in a previous interview in regards to the death of our heroes---"SO". I hope someone you knew was in that number. President Obama had nothing to do with the war. He is a Christian and so what if he wasn't. He was born in this so called great country. The President should tell all of you to go straight to hell!
Who in the world allowed this to air. Your interviewer looked like a pitiful fool. My goodness, Chaney even laughed at her and shook his head in disbelief several times! Are you ashamed? You should be. This interview was garbage. So long Dateline. I won't be wasting my time on this show in the future.
My husband and I looked at each other in disbelief, and he uttered, "someone needs to fire this woman." Neither of us have ever been Cheney fans, but after seeing this interview we started thinking maybe the media really had twisted everything regarding this man in a negative way. My God, it is shameful to even think you call yourselves a news organization. Gangel never did seem to be able to trip him up or get him to say what she wanted him to say. Did she even read the book, or does she just hate Cheney? Truly one of the most unprofessional interviews I've ever witnessed.
Jamie Gangel tries to make a mountain out of a mole hill. What an ass she made of herself, extremely stupid interview, I hope SNL mocks her badly. The producers and director of this segment should be demoted from those positions or let go!
I hope Matt Lauer does better this morning and doesn't try the same loser tactics as Jamie. Just interview him, don't try the "tough guy" approach.
Amen! She should be ashamed of the way she CONSTANTLY pressed Cheney on his book vs. GW's book. With Cheney's vast experience--why wouldn't Bush seek his opinion? Disgusting.
Jamie, Great interview and while I loved what was being said I was troubled by one small thing. At one point you asked the Former VP wasn't he "embarrassed by....". My problem was in your tone of the question you were implying that he should have felt a certain way as opposed to making sure the question of truly objective. Now the interview was terrific but I would caution you and all journalists to be careful of the "loaded question" and implying to an interviewee that they should feel one way or another about a given topic....but I do love they way you converse. It was great. Further I also loved how Mr. Cheney ducked Matt Lauer's question this morning to some degree about "what if an American were to be captured and face questionable interrogation". I thought Matt did a great job and he pressed it but the former VP did not really give a great answer. Overall nice job...well done.
While I respect the former VP and realize all the hype that goes with a new book coming out and the comparisons that might come up between the two books........I didn't watch the entire interview, I turned it on to see Colton Burpo's segment. I just read the book, basically in one sitting, found it completely fascinating and confirming of the Trinity and Heaven. I found myself wanting more! Before I knew it the segment was over! Not nearly enough time was spent on that segment! The Vice President would probably agree!
Are you kidding me, Jamie Gangel is one of the most unprofessional reporters I have seen in a while. She tried her best to twist everything that Chaney said. Of course a President and VP are going to bounce ideas off of each other, of course the President would ask others in a meeting if they agreed or had another idea. Ms Gangel tried to make all of this seem ominous and suspicious. She was digging for dirt with her claws out. Come on Dateline, if you want me to continue to be a viewer of you TV show then use some common sense and send Ms Gangel back to reporting school.
How sad the level of respect that was shown for former vice president Cheney. I am surprised Dateline allowed this to air, it only looked pitiful to the NBC network as Ms. Gangel spoke. I love how former Vice president Cheney summed up the conversation when asked about his 13% approval rating.....it's not about the approval rating, but about doing the job right and keeping the American people safe. Maybe Dateline could learn from this interview and focus on information and interviews that are more accurate and meaningful to the American people.
Re: Dateline and Dick Cheney/his new book. It would be interesting to know Mr. Cheney's view on "Trance: Formation of America" By Cathy O'Brien and Mark Philips. I doubt her story will be among his book's written memoirs.
Re: Dateline/Dick Cheney interview/book. It will be interesting to see if Mr. Cheney will note in his book his opinion of "Trance: Formation of America" by Cathy O'Brien and Mark Philips and if his memoirs will contain his participation. Doubtful. People are reading her book and believing it.
I am a faithful Dateline viewer, but found myself wondering what has happened that Dateline has to stoop so low for ratings. Jamie is a HORRIBLE interviewer - I not being a fan of Bush/Cheney I found myself siding with BOTH of their books and histories, since Jamie was obviously just trying to improve her career by attempting to be provocative. Cheney came off smelling like a rose - Jamie: a rat.
I agree with your comments, Gina. I was steaming as I watched that interview. I was not necessarily a Cheney fan prior to the interview but the SLANT...just the blatant SLANT to the journalist's questions...made me furious.
