A couple's romantic night at the Hudson Palisades ends in a tragic fall, leaving officials questioning whether or not it was an accident. Almost two decades later, the Bergen County prosecutor brings in a world renowned forensic pathologist to open the case and as a result, the husband is taken into custody. Chris Jansing reports as a community and even family members come out with new details on this cold case. Over The Edge airs as part of Dateline Friday, August 12, at 9pm/8c.
In Fayetteville, North Carolina, Major David Shannon was shot while sleeping next to his wife, yet all five people who were in the house that night claimed they did not hear or see anything that might help determine who committed this horrible crime. Keith Morrison tells the story of how investigators were unable to uncover any fingerprints, footprints or useable DNA at the crime scene. But tucked away in the bedroom were several unusual items that detectives never expected to find in a family home like the Shannon's. And they would provide investigators with their first lead in a complex case that involved not one, but two suspects. The Mystery of the Murdered Major airs as part of Dateline Friday, August 12, at 9pm/8c.

I believe the husband killed his wife, even if she was intoxicated, I believe that was used as an excuse for him to take advantage of her. Although he seems full of remorse, I still believe he is hiding more than he lets on. And to top it off...its sad when your own son takes the stand against you. This guy is GUILTY!!!
Was he found guilty? I fell asleep.....
These stories about spouses killing spouses always scares me. Sometimes it seems the most dangerous thing you can do is to get married.
Why did it take these idiots 20 years to try him? Absolutely ridiculous. None of the evidence had changed. I thought his lawyer put on an excellent defense as I thought it was a slam dunk he killed her. The jury though made an excellent point as to why a husband would sit with an obviously drunk wife over a cliff. i don't know if the lawyer could have mitigated that by saying he was drunk too or it wasn't obvious she was drunk. I wonder if the lawyer could have gotten everything dismissed by asking the judge ti dismiss because he was entitled to a timely and speedy trial. I realize though murder has no statute of limitations its just that nothing had changed for 20 years.
He had to be an idiot for killing her that way because 1. Perhaps she wouldn't have died from a shove, 2. He was the obvious suspect given their background. I guess he should thank the DA for giving him 20 years of freedom by not charging him back then.
Dateline NBC is a series of case studies of unjust convictions. If these stories are to be believed, our juries are full of people with no knowledge of justice or law. I have rarely seen anyone given a verdict of not guilty based on a reasonable doubt. Almost all of these stories consist of family members, spouses, and other not guilty people rung up on charges and convicted by stupid juries. It proves that justice does not exist in the USA. Most of these people are convicted on the basis of no evidence except some remark they made. The lack of real physical evidence is of no interest to these juries. Dateline NBC is an amazing chronicle of how unjust our criminal justice and jury system are. I guess this is the intent of the show; but I wonder how many people GET IT? In any case, all these cases are really sad.
