If you have any information regarding the unsolved murder case of Veno Leigertwood, featured in the Dateline report Death in the Driveway, please contact the following:
I found the mother and sister of the victim despicable. They provided NO evidence that the wife had any involvement (or motive since she was also insured) The mother never liked the wife from the beginning as evidenced by the fact that she didn't attend the couple's wedding. The nerve of her to say that her son "could have done better" in the selection of a wife. She and the daughter struck me as jealous, overly possessive and irrational. Show me proof and not "I know she did it". Ridiculous I felt the interviewer bought into the mother and sister's accusations with her line of questions. When they finally apprehend the murderers and it's clear that it isn't the wife, she should sue the mother and the sister-in-law for slander. Did the wife have no relatives? it only showed her friends.
I just finished watching this program and just could not believe that the inlaws would blame the wife of the victim, she is grieving so much, how dare they make such accusations.
I believe with all my heart that HE PLANNED HIS OWN MURDER. He knew what time he would be leaving the house that morning, talk about dying was done by the husband, why? He was preparing everyone around him. Look at there finances, were they losing there homes?, were they not able to pay the bills? He sacrificed his own life so his wife, his high school sweetheart, his best friend and that cute little girl could have a better life so they wouldn't have to struggle because of his made bad investments in realestate.
HEY MOM,,, instead of blaming your poor daughter-in-law, why don't you start blaming your son for his own death. It's so clear to see.
I don't think he planned his own murder. They could not find any bad investments or problems financially other than the housing bubble burst so things were a little tough then
Wow, we must have watched a different show. Why would someone planned to be executed in front of their own home? Your conceptualization is far from the facts of the case. The truth will reveal itself, eventually, and Raven will be exposed. Consider this, why didn't Raven state that she was afraid because Veno's murderers are still out there? Raven has no reason to be afraid of the people who murdered Veno because she is involved.
Justice4all-3564234- So in agreement with you.. She (Raven) never said she feared for her or her daughter's life, then thought it was a trip/twist-The feds never reveled her lie detector test but also never ruled her out as a suspect...Well there ya go... She's Guilty by Association and then some.....Yeah tht's another thing "Raven said her marriage was Perfect, no marriage is Perfect-lie.
I completely agree with Mobile50's comments above. The mother and sister of Vino never liked his wife and their attitude towards her even before they were married was very bitter . The friends that seem to know him best paint a very different picture of this couple than Vino's family. There is no evidence that links the wife and I agree that if I was the wife and the person who did this is brought to justice,I would sue the inlaws for slander and I would also limit visitation for her daughter because they will try and poison that child and take that child away from her.
I really fill sorry for the wife, because if it was up to her in-laws she would be hung with out a trail. You can clearly see from the start that the mother of the victim wanted to be in control of his life. The victims family has no evidence that the wife was involved in his muder in any way yet they are leading police to her by I say making up things. I noticed that during the mothers interview she could not look directly into the camera. She could not hold not answer a straight question with out stumbling. Maybe the police should investigate her. She could have had a reason to have him killed sence he did not have the wedding that she thought he should have. The Bible says that when you marry you leave mother and father and cleave to your wife. Mothers when your child leaves the nest and has his on family it's time to let go and let them live their own life. I thank God for my mother-in-law. She's one of a kind.
Definitely agree with most of the people except the took his own life theory. The mother and sister of the victim are despicable and too typical these days. I fell asleep on the last commercial; who finger impressions were on the bullet casing...thanks?
I still think more investigation needs to be done regarding Vino. I'm not saying he is guilty of some kind of "double life," but he could have been, and if that's the case, I can't imagine those that were also involved in that are going to come forward. The police must find this out. Perhaps he knew someone was after him, maybe a business deal gone wrong. His wife is right. The way the pointed the finger at her the whole time they maybe didn't investigate anything else very far. She seemed like a pretty honest person to me.
Everyone is addressing the bitter feud between the family of Veno and his wife, but no one seems to wonder why someone 31 years of age would take out $2 million life insurance policy. The key thing that the insurance agent stated that struck my nerve was that Veno was greatly concern about the cost to increase the policy because he could not afford the premium to increase the policy from $1 to $2 mill. However, Veno came up with the money to pay the insurance premium a few days before his murder. Where did Veno get this extra money to pay the increased premium? Did Veno really pay to increase the policy or did Raven or the agent pay to increase the policy?
The police should investigate the insurance agent and Raven's relationship because he benefited from the insurance policy too. As a family friend, the insurance agent should have stated to Veno that his life insurance should be consistent with the bills and amount to take care of his daughter should he die prematurely. The premiums should be affordable. Most importantly, a
perceptive insurance agent would guide their insurers towards a will and an attorney to outline the distribution of the policy, especially for the daughter's college tuition. Maybe the two of them (an odd couple) were going to split the policy.
Since Raven is a social worker, the police should check her client list and phone calls made from work prior to Veno's murder.
My sentiments towards the wife are similar to Veno's mother and sister because something is strange about Raven, and her behavior afterwards. A widow with an infant child would not attempt suicide because her mindset would be aimed at protecting her child. Why isn’t Raven afraid that the people, who killed her husband, may return to kill her and her child? A person who had something to do with the murder would have nothing to be afraid of, except for being arrested for the crime.
Raven never said during the interview that I am afraid for my safety because the killers are still out there. The bullet casing belongs to a woman--check Raven friends.
First thing that came to mind was he set this up, increased the insurance so his wife could pay off her & his mothers mortgage, but then they mention his cellphone is missing?? fingerprints on shell casing a female?? something in his pocket very close to him gone?? Maybe, just maybe he was having an affair? Have we even checked the cellphone bill from the last 6 months just to see if there are some random phone calls. Was it Raven? There's no evidence yet? I would focus on other things but wouldn't leave Raven out as a possibility. The mom is a police officer....I question that. Aren't we innocent until proven guilty. I know you lost your son, but you need to look at this from a police officers aspect. Instead of you and your daughter believing Ravens the suspect try finding the real killer. If he told you he wanted a divorce did he ever mention an affair?? Mom and daughters comments are too ify!
The police need to look at both of the possibities that someone close may be behind thismurder or he was the victim of a randon crime.
First looking at the wife the police will always refer to the spouse as a person of intestest because they are the one who would benifit most from their death. The wife is very beliveable and genuine when she speaks of her husband and wanting to find the person or people who killed her husband. That in itself doesn't remove her from the police radar, the police take their personnal emotions and feelings out when they zero in on their person of interest. A con is just that, a con and if they are good at it they can get away with murder, that is why the police need to explore all aveunes until they have the evidence to arrest the person who is respondible.
After watching the mother and sister speak about their feelings for the wife and why they think she was involved, it appears they based their findings on just their gut feelings and no hard facts. I can't imagine loosing a child and then in such a brutal way. It seems the mother and sister's true feelings about the wife are why they are pointing the finger in her direction, I didn't hear them state any other reason that wasn't based on a feeling.
The police are now saying there may have been a scuffle and now are submitting his clothing for testing. Why didn't they do this 3 years ago? That's where the police have dropped the ball. I can't beleive his clothing wasn't processed in the first place and that this isn't routine in a murder where there isn't any eye witness. Also, the police now say something other than his cell phone taken so that could bring it back to a robbery. Maybe the victim fought handing over his belongings, his mother said herself back in 1996 her son had a gun pointed in his face in an attempted robbery and stated she always told him to stand his ground and in that case the would be robbers "got nothing". Her sons actions in that failed robbery speaks volumes and could show how he may have responded if his murder was really a robbery gone wrong. The time of the day may have been just a coincidence and on that early Saturday morning the one who did pulled the trigger may have been nothing more than a hype who was looking to rob so they could go score more dope.
I do believe as the wife said that her husband wouldn't want this kind of family situation for his daughter and hope for the child's sake everyone can put their feelings aside. A child needs all the love they can receive from the people around them and who better than that than family.
The wife seems suspicious to me. Her husband was killed a few feet from their front door and she shows no fear that his killers are still on the loose. She seems too calm when discussing the whole matter. I know it has almost been 3 years, but if she was supposedly so distraught at one point that she tried to take her own life I would expect her to be more emotional. Where is the wife's family? What was behind that suicide attempt? I believe even if his wife didn't have him killed she knows more about the murder than she is letting on. Plenty of couples have appeared to be in love to family and friends only to have the truth come out later.
I'm more of the impression that more will come out about Vino. The fact that the only items missing were his cell phone and an item he always had with him means that this was personal. I still don't think he wife is involved. As usual, Dateline will do a follow-up story once the case is solved and we can all compare notes to see which of our hypothesis is correct. Perhaps he did have a double-life. It happens all the time. The fact that there was a woman's prints on the shell casings mean it could possibly be another woman. The insurance guy said he was the one who convinced Vino and his wife to buy the insurance. So, this was a business deal for him. He did say that they had a lot of property and that it made sense for them to cover themselves in the event of a death. I was under the impression that both Vino and his wife were insurance for the same amount. As for the wife's emotions, her friends described her as extremely distaught. But, I am very anxious to find out who the murder(s) are.
Does Dateline do a follow up? I've never seen one, and I've signed up with them for emails for updates. Am I missing something? I'm always curious. And also, I think, a woman could have been dressed like a man to avoid being recognized, and changed back after, to avoid being recognized then also.
What police officer tells their child to stand up to a mugger with a gun. And yet his mother seemed proud that her son was mugged in 1996 and didn't lose anything. Maybe this time he wasn't so lucky. He wouldn't give up the goods so they shot him and went through his pockets where they took his cell phone and a trinket. The woman's genetic profile that is on the shell casing is some girlfriend touching the bullets. Someone will brag, or a girlfriend will talk, and then hopefully the code of silence won't prevent the killer from being caught. I think the mother is straight up lying when she says her DIL showed her the policy on the day of the murder, but I do find it odd that the wife called the insurance agent because he was a friend. This one will get solved if the cops there aren't lazy. But if they're like his mother, they're not too bright.
One thing that really stood out for me was when Raven said, "Divorce was not an option," in answer to the question about whether she and Veno were having martial difficulties. It seemed quite sinister to me, as if she would rather see him dead than get a divorce.
I also found that she acted quite "twitchy" when she was asked about her conflicting stories regarding what she was doing at the time of the shooting. I know that if my husband had just walked out the door and I heard something that sounded like a backfire outside my window, I would investigate immediately, whether I was drifting in and out of sleep, nursing a baby, or taking a shower. I would definiately know what was going on before the police barged through me door, that's for sure. If someone at a bus stop a few blocks away was alarmed, wouldn't someone just feet away in the house also be? That and the fact that she didn't seem concerned that the killers were still out here seems tremendously weird and suspicious.
I found all these women disturbing -- Raven and Veno's mother and sister. Nevertheless, it could be that there was always something disturbing about Raven that Veno's family picked up on both consciously or unconsciously.
Throughout the interview, Raven seemed to be obsessed with the notion of "perfection" in her marriage and the idea that she and Veno were living "the dream." My theory is that when this impossible standard was challenged, maybe by an affair on Veno's part, gradual alienation of affection or even something as simple as the recession (they said she wasn't too keen to go back to work), something snapped in her and she hired the hit. Sadly, if the marriage was on the rocks, he was worth more to her dead than alive....
I hope the daughter has some positive influences in her life. Let's hope she never does anything to disappoint her mother!
i think the mother and sister are distracting the police from the real crime and story here first who knew he was leaving that early? was he really going to a presentation? was the person at the bus stop telling the truth? (if i was at the bus stop and heard gun shots i would be trying to hide or something but definitely i wouldn't keep standing there) was he having an affair? (for just his cell phone and a personal item to be taken not his laptop that sounds like a vindictive women pissed he didn't leave his wife for her)if he was being robbed they would take everything of value and sell it so the phone was taken because it obviously had evidence on it texts or pictures and the personal item was taken to hurt his wife or family and the fingerprint on the gun casing was of a female so check female coworkers female students or his wife best friend or the women standing at the bus stop
There are definitely some unanswered questions for me about some possibilities that are surrounding this murder. 1) Veno's mother being a police officer, I'm sure there are enemies that she has made over the years that need to be checked out. 2) Veno was dealing in real estate, people were losing jobs, homes were going into foreclosure, families were being evicted. houses that were under renovation came to a halt in the middle of construction because people could not afford to continue the work, and so on. The kind of chaos that was going on during those times could made someone want to take out revenge on him. 3) Raven is a case worker, there could be someone she dealt with that wanted to make her miserable. 4) It was stated that Raven was the only one that knew he was leaving early that day. If that's the case who was he planning on giving a presentation to? Seems to me if you leave the house with a laptop and speakers you plan on a few people meeting you there, right?
Now just let me set something strait about the "ideal" or "perfect" marriage Raven said her and her husband had. I think I can understand what she is trying to say. My husband & I have been married for 13 years we are each others best friend. Our years together have been awesome. We know that this kind of marriage is definitely not the norm but they do exist. Just like all marriages there are times when we argue, I can even say it is not hard to do in front of family when you are really close and spend a lot of time together. A healthy and "ideal" marriage uses these arguments as stepping stones to better understand each other and become even more intimate if done correctly. Just because you see a couple argue does not mean their marriage is bad or doomed for divorce. After all these years with my husband I can honestly say we are more in love with each other today than we were on our wedding day and it is because of the intimacy of knowing each other so well that brought us here not an "argue free marriage". What their friends saw in their marriage was two very happy people eager to bring a baby into the next chapter of their love story and two parents wanting to secure a legacy for that child in more ways than one. I noticed that Veno was very goal oriented and set up specific plans to succeed in those goals. He knew Raven was the one for him and wasted no time making her his wife. He knew flipping real estate was good money and jumped on it. He knew the kids of his home town needed hope & a roll model so he became one. He saw the face of his beautiful baby girl and wanted to make sure her future was secure no matter what happened to him or his wife. It looks to me that Veno was a planner, he figured out what he wanted his legacy to look like and he took action quickly every time to make sure that happened no matter what.
As for as Raven is concerned, I do not believe she had anything to do with her husband's murder. Think about this, since Veno's mother has been a police officer for so long don't you think there would be some loyalty to her to find his killer, especially if it was Raven? Of course they would. Which just goes to show THEY don't even believe Raven had anything to do with it. I can understand why she would remain a person of interest, but it's time for Veno's family to put their efforts into other possibilities and find the people responsible. Thank God when people say "I've got a feeling about it" doesn't stop the investigators from looking elsewhere and will never cause someone to be convicted for that kind of crap!
I found the mother and sister of the victim despicable. They provided NO evidence that the wife had any involvement (or motive since she was also insured) The mother never liked the wife from the beginning as evidenced by the fact that she didn't attend the couple's wedding. they did show raven's mother, the only Asian in the picture with all veno's relatives. sorry to say they show partiality
