It is news material, it was posted on all the local newspapers when it happened and on the local television stations at that time. Why wouldn't a news show air this kind of thing happening? You are interested in what goes on in the community you live in. So I don't see why you are so offended by this being aired on t.v. When a case goes to trial, it becomes public record at that point and time. You can't hide tragedies when they happen, that is part of the news that people are interested in!

morgan-326. I am from Effingham County. Some people aren't rednecks here. We actually are one of the fastest growing populations in the US. We also probably have a better school system than what you have in your county. I personally knew the Heidts and they are and were a good, God-loving family. Yes, Robin and Craig shouldn't have done the things they did, but you don't need to go around and say that our county is poorly educated or super loose.

The Heidt patriarch Israel Christian Heidt came to this country in the 1730s to help found Georgia Colony. One of his sons John George Heidt came a few years later in 1749. John's son Christian fought in the Revolutionary War so that you can enjoy the freedoms you have today. There have also been members of the family who have fought in every other war through the years to preserve that freedom. Also, throughout the family in every generation there are lawyers, doctors, and ministers.

Also, Phillip and Carey were well respected members of the community. Phillip and Carey worked together in the real estate company that Phillip owned.

I am disgusted and mad because now this story is all people will think about when they hear about Effingham County, GA or when they hear or think about the Heidt family. The case is done and over and it's time for the media to sit down, shut up, and let the family get back to grieving for those pillars of the family who are no longer here. This confused me also. Hard to see the majority not guilties changing thier minds for anything less than the 4 guilties were not going to change and the jury basically didn't want to be there until the judge declared a hung jury. I think this man was found guilty simply so the jury could go home sooner.

That is it in a nutshell. It is all about prosecutors getting a conviction period. It does not matter if they are innocent or not. That is why dna has gotten so many out of prison and death row. If you are poor you have to have a public defender who works for the district attorneys office . they control the paycheck.......get it...? The system is very sick. Two guys who did not know each other in Cailf. got the death penalty for killing a cop in San Diego. The were convicted as partners. 17yrs later it was proven one of them was in county jail at the time of the killing......

mdogs1 you are right!!!! The police didn't look closely at other suspects, like for instance, Robin Heidt's brother who suspiciously just hangs himself in the barn a week or 2 later after these murders took place. That looks like Robin's work to me!!!! Not the work of a son, who although was exiled from his family, because of an affair with his sister-in-law. This family was very close, they went to church together, ate dinner together, worked together, and just did a lot of family gatherings together. Craig, is not a murderer and nobody has proven this with any scientific evidence. To me there would have to be something on his person, auto, or home that would have clearly pointed at his guilt. Show me this and I Will Believe.

And to those who are wandering, no I don't know the Heidts personally, but I do live in Effingham and I have been here for the last 12 years. Effingham has it's short comings yes, but you can't show me a community that doesn't. I have followed this case from the day it happened and I believe that the police focused too much on Craig and didn't take a look outside that box. I believe that we all will find out later, that this was hatched solely by Robin Heidt for the insurance Carey had and her bother who killed himself was the one who carried out this slaying. I could be wrong, but he was never looked at as a suspect, but was questioned and days later hung himself.

And to the uneducated fools, from God only knows where, their is a majority of prominent business people who reside in this community. Unfortunately, for your parents and you all that your education hasn't reached the level of this community's. I hope God will bless you for your on short comings.
