If you haven't done so, schedule a face-to-face conference at the school. Request that a guidance counselor be present, and bring your spouse or a supportive friend with you. Ask for a copy of the school's bullying policy and student handbook prior to the meeting. That should get their attention! Be persistent until things change.

I am a MS teacher and would also love a copy of last night's show. I live in MA and we have new state-wide bullying laws. This video would benefit my school. How can I get a copy of the show?

As a Middle School Principal I was very impressed with this insightful look into bullying. I would also like to know how to obtain a copy. It is so important to teach our adults exactly what to do to confront bullying in our schools, and equally important to teach our students how to find their voice. It is profound for them to hear that they are either with or against a bully -- it isn't OK to remain silent.

I, too, would like to obtain a copy for our local schools. I watched this with my teen daughter and we both thought it was very powerful and inspiring.

The entire Dateline video should be made available for download on your website not just the mini clips that appear on the site as of tonight (10 minutes after the show aired). Our whole family watched this together tonight. This was a great talking point for our children aged 13 and 10.

Excellent program! It should be shown in middle schools and high schools across the country, and most importantly, we parents must watch it and talk about it with our kids.

Bullying in the schoolyard does continue into the home and the workplace where support is less forthcoming.

Perhaps a followup to your bullying report is needed.

I am a principal of a High School and soon to be a Middle School Principal. I be1lieve that it is extremely important to work with our middle school students and help them to build the courage and self esteem prior to entering the High school. Are there any Anti-Bullying programs or approaches being used in other MIddle Schools that have proven to produce positive results?

Thank you for your episode on bullying! As a parent it is helpful to have outside dialogue initiated in these areas to help feel more capable of approaching our kids. I am wondering whether you have advice for adult bullying? I have worked steadily for the past 35 years and have been fortunate not to have had any bullying supervisors, until my last employer. Bullying and verbal abuse was common and I could not stand by and watch this happen to others or myself. I was terminated without warning and without cause and believe that the reason for my discharge was that I would not allow the abuse. I do feel guilty that I let my Family down by standing up to the bully because I will have difficulty providing for them now. I am unsure what to tell my children. Please help if you can?

Bullying is so rampant in our schools. I know that the schools are trying to take a stand against bullying, but it just seems to be getting worse, esp in the middle school years. It was esp powerful when seeing the boys bullying and the teacher did not stop it, how the bullying got worse, and even physical. I think that it IS so important that parents, adults everywhere stand up and say that bullying of any kind is not ok when they see it. My daughter has been the victim of bullying for years, and has seen bullying in the schools around her. She now thinks that it is "ok" or that the kids are "just kidding" when they push, shove, say mean things and then say "just kidding". Is there a way to get a copy of this to show to PTAs, or at teacher meetings? I would love to be able to send it to our school and I believe we have a supportive school board and principals that would show it. Thank you for your show!

I would also like to know how to obtain a copy of this program on a DVD or video. It is exactly the resource I have been looking for to help stop bullying. Thanks for your response.

If you are in California, we run a program for girls empowerment and bullying strategies. Our program teaches our girls respect along with conflict resolution. We are a mobile program and come to your site to work with girls. You can contact us at positivegirlsmovement@yahoo.com. Our movement was created by a Mom who had a daughter that was targeted by bullies in her high school campus in a suburb of Los Angeles. Dateline has done a wonderful job in highligting this very complex problem that has been around for a long time.

Not only would I like a copy of this program, but I know several other parents who would also appreciate one. Our middle school principal needs to see this....my daughter has been on the receiving end of some very vicious bullying....verbal, cyber-space and actual physical threats. My daughter and I watched this together this evening and it made me cry as I knew that she had experienced the very nastiness that had been shown in the show. It was very powerful and eye-opening....something that all schools need to open their eyes to and realize is going on within the confines of the school walls.

I've just emailed our middle school counselor about the Dateline episode on bullying. Every parent, teacher, coach and student in middle school should watch it! It would lead to a lot of good discussion and help everyone understand the dynamics (of bullying) better. When kids are in the middle of the situation, maybe they can think back to this and realize what they need to do! How does my school get a copy?

Thank you for airing this show. I watched it with my daughter, who was reduced to tears. She wished you had produced it at her school. Please consider an encore presentation, or at the very least, make it available to the schools, with an aide for the counselors. All kids and parents should watch this!

I am a fourth grade teacher and see bullying take place on a weekly/daily basis. Children don't realize how much their words can "hurt". At the elementary level they tend not to view it as bullying but just "playing around". As an educator as well as a parent, it is nice to see that segments like "My Child Would Never..." bring awareness to the topic. I would however, like to see a segment focus on younger children. If we teach children (and their parents) zero tolerance to bullying at a young age, we stand a better chance of getting this negative behavior under control.

I watched this with my 11 y/o daughter and 9 y/o son. I have never seen either of my kids react as they did when they watched this. Both of my kids said that they wished that this was what they watched in school to learn about bullying. Both of my kids said that they know what bullying is but are never sure how to make it stop. This program helped tremendously and I can only hope it is made available to every school nation wide.

Early on, I taught them the concept of the possible factor that the bully is lashing out because he/she doesn't feel good about themselves. We don't always know their background, we only know what we see. While there are always exceptions to the rules, time after time I have seen this concept play out. I am working now to see that not only is the victim protected, guarded, and defended....but that someone else is approaching the bully to see if there is another problem going on there that can be defused and helped.

I would love to use this video as a training tool. I hope someone from Dateline will let us know how to get a copy of the program so that all of us can use it to educate our students on what it takes to be a helpful bystander. These situations were very realistic portrayals of the life of our middle school and high school students.
