An Oregon family struggles with the mysterious disappearance of their 19-year-old daughter Brooke Wilberger, who was kidnapped from an apartment complex just blocks away from the campus of Oregon State University in May of 2004. NBC News’ Kate Snow reports on the stressful investigation that plagued Brooke’s family and her community as the twists and turns in the five-year case left everyone looking for answers. When initial leads turned out to be dead-ends, investigators worried time was running out—until a similar abduction hundreds of miles away in New Mexico turned out to be the long-awaited break in the case of bringing Brooke back home.
Bringing Brooke Home is a two-hour Dateline report airing Friday, Feb. 4, at 9pm/8c, including interviews with Brooke’s family, police investigators and Former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, whose involvement in Brooke’s case completely changed the hunt for Brooke's kidnapper.

brooke had a wonderful family . the killer on the otherhand needed to be shot on the spot, instead of playing these games. that was one of the most touching stories i have heard in the 30 years i have been alive. people that are that sick and demented should not be aloud to live when they put such an amazing person and her family through that. he is a coward, she was so little and defenceless i only wish he would of came after me and he would have wished he didnt.

If they had 'shot him on the spot', how would they have ever recovered Brooks' remains?
As a person who's father went missing in 1981, presumed murdered by his wife and step-son, the not knowing is the worst part. You have no closure. So, to get her remains back is worth a lot.
Also, don't talk all tough, you don't know what would have happened. If you are so tough head up to the New Mexico State Penitentiary and punch him the face.
Shooting him would have been much too fast, much too soft on him. Predators need punishments that will deter other wanna-be's. I say release them all. To those of us who know what they need.
Brooke's killer does not deserve to live... he doesn't even deserve to die. he should be tortured every waking moment of the rest of his natural life! Brooke was a beautiful young girl raised by a very respectable family. She had so much to offer to the world and more to live for than that cracked out douchebag could ever comprehend. How do you see a girl like that with so much going for her, and act as if her life is worth less than the enjoyment of getting off by raping her? Anyone who can do that is incomprehensibly evil. For people like that, even hell isn't hell enough
