Dear Concerned Readers, if you are angry & frustrated about the lack of progress being made in the Gulf then please help with a grassroots letter writing campaign to our elected officials urging them to Stop the Oil! Regardless of political views & pointing fingers in the blame game, the fact of the matter remains that we have a horrifying situation on our hands that is not being addressed in any real way. We as individuals feel helpless about such a huge problem, which the govt is the only one capable of addressing. The govt isn't doing enough, no political action groups are mobilizing. Here in NYC & around the country BP stations are being vandalized because there has been no concerted effort that answers to the widespread community anger over this. When nothing is being done we have to speak up & hold our govt accountable! Please help get the word out to everyone you know to write to your elected representatives to stress how important this is to us & to pressure the govt to action. All of us together, we cannot be ignored.
The starter sample letter below is also available on google docs at http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AUTdETaGwIC6ZG NwNHFtdzJfNGNjbTkyMmdm&hl=en. Dear [elected official],
I am writing to voice my anger and despair about the gulf coast oil spill. I urge you, as my representative, to do everything in your power to stop the leaks and restore the area as quickly as possible.
Hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil flooding the ocean for over a quarter of a year is UNACCEPTABLE. The ecological damage is appalling and every day longer is that much worse. This cannot wait 3 months!
Some $30 million a day, damages will be in the billions before we're through this. Species survival, habitat destruction throughout the Gulf clear to Florida and beyond, affecting a region producing a third of this country's seafood. People's livelihoods are at stake, in an area that has already been recently devastated, and given inadequate government response.
Although we live far from the affected region I am writing to you because this is a devastating situation that we are all deeply concerned about. I am frustrated by the poor handling of this disaster, and feeling helpless to do little, I write to you to urge you to please lend your supports to pressuring the government to put an end to this disaster immediately. Had this occurred in another part of the world there would be little we could do, but this is in our country, one of the richest, strongest, with the most powerful military, with their brilliant engineer corps. We, more than any one else in the world, must resolve this situation and it is our responsibility to see that something is done!
Sincerely,
Frustrated and concerned

"Hi.. I'm living in Wisconsin and have been watching the news on a current basis with my mother. I am 18yrs old, and having a fond attraction toward nature and her wildlife, I find this whole oil spill situation rather heartbreaking. I am commenting in wishes to ask if my mother and I were to set up a Bake Sale in means to further aide those struggling in Louisianna, and the coastlined areas with the clean up and such. I've been very concerned for not only the coastline's people, but it's natural reserves and areas of wildlife, land and sea. My mother just told me but minutes ago to check out the datline sight about helping with this. Thus brought forth her bright idea of a bakesale. We wish to hold a large bake sale out of our own hands to help with the struggles of those cleaning up and trying to help the wildlife on the coastlines of Louisianna. But.. One problem occured as I looked over the links. We need a clue, or help in finding a way to send our donations to the areas in which need it most for the clean up and so on caused by said oil spill. I ask of you kindly to please help us with this. We can't bare to not only see Louisianna's people suffer, but the innocent creatures caught blindly in this whole mess. If able, please contact me or my mother, at either of these email addresses, we'd love the help and be thankful."
"The emails to contact either of us on are, the one I put up in the Email piece.. mainly."
Sincerely,
Katie Bellrichard, and Mother, Eileen.
Hi, Katie & Eileen,
I'm Mary Lyn Horton from the New Orleans area. I'm in Jefferson Parish which is the parish of Grand Isle, LA. That is where most of the pictures of the oil soaked birds were taken on the Dateline story. I would suggest you contact my Councilman, Chris Roberts. His info is below. I'm confident he can direct you to where you could send donations. Thank you so much for caring!

We can also drive less; when we do have to drive, keep tires properly inflated, slow down a bit on the highways, drive "gently" around town, and choose vehicles that get the best possible mileage for our transportation needs and budget. Reuse/recycle plastic bags and bottles. Little things - if everyone did them, it would make a difference!
Fleurty Girl (a New Orleans based business) is selling "Rescue Me" t-shirts. These are limited-edition shirt with 100% of the net proceeds going straight to Audubon Institute's Louisiana Marine Mammal & Sea Turtle Rescue Program (LMMSTRP). Hoda, you went right for the heart of this New Orleanian & all the people of Louisiana. I loved your story on the fighting spirit of our people. After watching the scenes of Katrina, the Saints winning the Super Bowl & then our state bird dripping & drowning in the oil, I needed a box of tissues for the tears streaming down my face. YOU understand how we are feeling at this moment in time.
Every night I watch the news & the never-ending oil spilling into the Gulf. I can't even sleep. It seems no one outside of LA understands how this spill is destroying the coast, the wildlife & the way of life for it's people. I wonder every day, will this ever end and how will they ever clean it all up? This is such a depressing time & with no planned solutions.
Thank you for your heart felt story. We love and miss you here in New Orleans. Come back.....
Why didn't Dateline report on the oil eating microbes (do a search for that at you tube to see how quick they clean up the gulf!) and why no report on the KEVIN COSTNER OIL SEPARATING MACHINE? Because fakkking AMericans are making more money by having this oil spill than shutting it off. GET THE DAMN OIL EATING MICROBES AND SPREAD THEM NOW IN THE GULF. DON'T WAIT FOR PERMISSION OR MONEY, JUST FAKKKING DO IT!
Make no mistake the damn Yanks & Dateline are in with the stupid Brits on this. All for money. They get more publicity and money with the spill! Dateline is a joke, all mandated by the fakking rosthschilds for the NWO. FAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK YOU DATELINE STUPID NBC!!
Dumb Americans starting a facebook campaign to tell the government what to do. Um I think it's fair to say they're rather aware, you dumb f/huh/ks! Yeah obama is as dumb as bush and waiting for his facebook fans to update him! IDIOTS!
Just get the damn oil eating microbes if you care and go spread them in the gulf. No need for red tape, just do it they can't stop you. Spread them in the marshlands and in the middle of the night dump gallons of this stuff. Case closed. Oh PS: Miami is next! There's someone else on you tube who posted a vid back in 2008 who predicted this oil disaster in the gulf. They also said Miami was next.
GET THE DAMN OIL EATING MICROBES.
You asked for a solution you got it. Any questions? Go watch the vids on youtube
It happen that I have a few ideas as tool builder on how to stop the flow,
I predicted that the 'top kill' would not work period. and exactly, it didn't.
But the one in charge is going the wrong way, looking at Hollywood and not the real inventor,
smart thinking community, i hope there is someone out there to comm. to us here

the only way to stop the disaster is put and explode a bomb in that hole. Why didnt do that in all this time? ...becouse BP dont want renounce to suck oil??!!
Can you please tell me where I can see last Sunday nights Dateline where you did the follow-up on the poeple in Ohio who were having such a struggle with no work and no money. I was unable to see that part of the program, got in half way throuhg the program and so want to see the results that came in with offers of help.
Hope you can help.
